Well it sure doesn't seem to be affecting the box office! With the top 12 films grossing $129 million (compared to last year's $127.7 million), last month was apparently the biggest January box office on record.

The biggest earner of the month, "Paul Blart: Mall Cop", has grossed $83 million since its January 16 premiere. "Milk", "The Reader", and "Frost/Nixon" -- three of the five films nominated for Best Picture -- interestingly failed to contribute much to the month's record-breaking results.

So what do you think this all means? Is the economy on its way to recovery? Or is the film industry simply one that can survive the negative effects of a slowdown?
JVhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07812376648622563257noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4797271304594847265.post-22896345091222975912009-01-31T08:25:00.000-08:002009-02-01T17:50:26.591-08:00Poll ResultsWhich movie do you think will win Best Picture?

"Slumdog Millionaire" topped the poll with 62% of the votes!

"The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" got 25% of the vote, and "Milk" got 12%. Neither "Frost/Nixon" nor "The Reader" received any votes.

Thanks for voting! But have no fear! 20th Century Fox revealed yesterday that it plans to partner with Walden Media to finance the next film -- "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader".

With a production budget of $140 million (compared to last year's $215 million for "Prince Caspian"), the film is expected to be more family film-friendly. The film is also aiming to restore the magical aspects of the first film, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe", which were widespread believed to be absent from "Prince Caspian".

The film will first be released in the UK on May 7, 2010.JVhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07812376648622563257noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4797271304594847265.post-18327589311043799862009-01-27T19:49:00.000-08:002009-01-27T19:59:37.758-08:00Trailer: "The Soloist"Based on a true story, "The Soloist" features Jamie Foxx as Nathaniel Ayers, a homeless and schizophrenic musician who is considered a prodigy of the double bass.
